And "SOUL" looks GREEN!
Hello! Our names are Sarah Gascho and Joseph Whittle, and we are TV production seniors at Hofstra University. We are currently in pre-production for our thesis project, “Larry Land,” a 30 minute dark comedy puppet variety show. RTVF 165 is the class, and students are tasked with creating a television special of their own design. Seeing sketches, skits, and puppet foreplay, “Larry Land” is a subversion to the puppet shows and childhood tropes of the past (think SNL, Muppets, Mr. Rogers, and Robot Chicken). We are outsourcing funding to make this project a reality, and to set it apart from anything anyone has ever seen in and outside the school.
We are so excited to be working with the puppet show-runner, Larry, and his entourage, but he is embarrassed to admit- WE HAVE TO BUILD THEM! Larry is a very particular puppet, and for good reason; we are seeking funds to build his land of characters and embellishments to fit his vision. We are all aiming not for what a puppet show should be, but reaching for what it could be, and fabric, foam, constructive supplies, blood and guts are all necessary. Oh! And Love... which is a liability and requires insurance.
While this production is influenced by the class, the motivation for creating this installment stems from the passion of each student involved. We share this mission of creating a program that will be, again, everything it could be.
Larry thanks you for your time, and hopes you share our enthusiasm for this little passion project. Consider contributing towards the finished product, but if you don’t, puppets can’t cry either way…
