A Prosthesis for Jesus

Dear all,

With great sadness in my heart, I want to inform you that our dear Jesús Barrios Gallipoli passed away this Sunday, August 23, at his residence in San Bernardino, in Caracas-Venezuela. We send our deepest condolences to the Barrios family and all of Jesus' friends and extended family for this sad loss and we ask for the eternal rest of his soul.

On behalf of Jesús Barrios, RIP, and the entire Barrios Gallipoli family, we are eternally grateful to all the people who responded and participated in this GoFundMe campaign. A huge thank you to all of you for your generous contributions and for all the moral and spiritual support you gave Jesús and his family during this campaign.  He is now resting from all of his ailments and will continue making new strokes with the colors of heaven from his new home.

As Jesús no longer needs the prosthetic surgery he longed for, the funds contributed will be used by the Barrios family to cover burial expenses as well as other pending medical charges. I also take this opportunity to share a video message of gratitude from Andrés Barrios, the younger brother of Jesús.

Original message from Jesús Barrios.

My name is Jesús Barrios. I’m a Venezuelan plastic artist with limited economic resources. For a long time, I have suffered bipolar disorder and have been medicated with Lithium Carbonate, and being this, a nephrotoxic product, it was severely affecting my kidneys causing chronic kidney failure. For this reason, I must undergo dialysis treatment three times a week.

Two years ago, I was hit by a motorcycle, fracturing my left hip. Last year, I had a Hemiarthoplasty surgical procedure with a cemented Moore prosthesis. Currently, this prosthesis must be changed, and that is why I urgently need a new operation since I am suffering a lot of pain and have serious impediments to walk normally.

For these reasons, I am humbly asking for your prayers and kind help to cover the costs of this surgery that will allow me to be independent and walk again by myself.

I am dreaming of walking again, I am dreaming of this new opportunity, so I can continue working on new and larger paintings, and in other artistic forms, not only in my home country but by taking my art to other countries.

I hope that dream will come true thanks to your generous donations and support.

Mi nombre es Jesús Barrios. Soy artista plástico venezolano con recursos económicos limitados ya que, por padecer trastorno bipolar desde hace mucho tiempo, he sido medicado con Carbonato de Litio y siendo este, un producto nerfrotóxico, fue afectando severamente mis riñones provocándome insuficiencia renal crónica. Por esta razón, debo dializarme tres veces a la semana.

Hace dos años, fui atropellado por una moto, fracturándome la cadera izquierda. El año pasado, me operaron con Hemiartoplastia con prótesis Moore cementada. Actualmente, dicha prótesis debe ser cambiada, y es por eso que requiero de una nueva operación con urgencia, ya que tengo mucho dolor e impedimentos serios para caminar normalmente.

Por estas razones es que les pido humildemente sus oraciones y generosa ayuda para poder cubrir los costos de esta cirugía que me permitirá ser independiente y volver a caminar por mi cuenta.

Estoy soñando con volver a caminar, estoy soñando con esta nueva oportunidad, para poder seguir trabajando en pinturas nuevas y más grandes, y en otras formas artísticas, no solo en mi país de origen sino también llevando mi arte a otros países.

Espero que ese sueño se haga realidad gracias a sus generosas donaciones y apoyo.
