A Proper Wheelchair for Tal's Campus Life
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Tal and I’m currently a student in college living with SCA type 3. I love to make art, study psychology, and go outside with my dog, Maja. I am currently fundraising for a new wheelchair that will make getting around campus much easier for me.
While I currently do have a wheelchair, it is poorly fit to my dimensions, which makes it hard to independently propel myself and therefore I struggle to get around campus. My condition causes me to be able to walk distances when I wear leg braces and use forearm crutches, but longer distances require the use of a wheelchair. There are also days where my ataxia is too severe, and I require the use of a wheelchair to conserve energy. I am a full time college student and would love to be able to get around campus without worrying about getting stranded somewhere due to an unideal chair. The chair that I require - a customized Tilite ZR, costs just over 5,000 dollars. I've saved 2,000 dollars already though my campus job, meaning the goal right now is 3,000 dollars.
So what is SCA 3? Spinocerebellar Ataxia is a brain disorder that progressively damages the cerebellum, which controls movement. This means that physical coordination is impaired. For me, that means my balance is most affected. https://www.ataxia.org
I would be so grateful if you were able to donate towards my goal - and I thank you for reading this post!
