A Proper Sendoff For Stephen Taylor

Donation protected
On Tuesday, January 16th, our friend Stephen D. Taylor was struck by  a car and killed while crossing Martin Luther King Blvd. at Westminster on his way home to his tent. Stephen has been a Chapel Hill resident for about 5 years.  He made many friends here and was known for taking care of others, his love of music, technology, chess, coffee, literature and social justice. Steve was one of the most giving, compassionate, empathetic people that I have had the pleasure to call my friend and I know many other people feel the same.

He was raised in Marrero, Louisiana. No family has come forward to claim Steve's body and time is running out with the coroner's office. We would like to be able to have him cremated by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas. If we are not able to raise enough money for an individual service in the next 18 hours, the  state will handle his cremation  and his remains will not be able to be claimed by his family if they come forward. The remains would be scattered anonymously on the coast.

Please contribute any amount that you are able so that we can honor our friend and neighbor.  As his friend, and emergency contact, I will be coordinate the funding of  his cremation. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Any excess funds received will be used to help the homeless in our community in Steve's name.
