My name is Loreza Valentin and on behalf of Rachel Perez, Jose Martinez's wife and family, it is with such a heavy heart that we share the tragic passing of Jose Martinez. You never wake up thinking that today will be the day someone you love is taken so suddenly and under these circumstances. On the night of Friday, December 12, a fire broke out. Despite the courageous efforts of over 100 firefighters and EMS Personnel who worked tirelessly to put it out and provide safety to all, Jose was the only fatality. We are so grateful for all that was done.
Our hearts and prayers are with all who were affected in any way, those who were injured, and the families who were forced to leave their homes, especially so close to the holidays. So many lives were and still are disrupted. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the suddenness of it all has left so many people shaken. Our family is shattered, devastated, and struggling to make sense of a loss that came without warning.
Jose was a man of faith who turned his life over to God. While we find some peace in knowing he is now in God’s hands, the pain of his absence is overwhelming. He leaves behind his wife, Rachel; his four sons, William, Joey, John, and Christopher; and his only grandchild, Laura, along with family members and friends who are struggling to process a loss that feels impossible to accept.
Along with grief and many other emotions, the family is now facing unexpected financial hardship. During this difficult time, we are reaching out to the community for support in laying Jose to rest with dignity and respect.
