Hi everyone, my name is Shannia Singh, I'm a graduate student at Loyola Marymount University, and I’m currently directing Trinetra (The One with Three Eyes), a short film for my thesis project.
Trinetra (The One with Three Eyes) tells the story of a devoted mother preparing to lead a sacred family prayer, only to be confronted with the unthinkable when her daughter reveals a long-buried truth. What follows is a reckoning that threatens to upend tradition, reputation, and everything this mother thought she was protecting.
Our mission statement is to tell a raw, emotionally honest story about the aftermath of abuse, not through the lens of courtroom drama, but through the intimate, painful, and ultimately redemptive relationship between a mother and daughter. This film seeks to open dialogue around generational trauma, silence, and the messy path to healing
I’m making this film to confront the silences that often haunt our families, especially within immigrant households, where tradition can sometimes become a shield for secrecy. Growing up surrounded by rituals, language barriers, and the quiet weight of generational trauma, I witnessed how easily harm can hide behind the façade of respectability. This story is deeply personal. It explores the emotional battleground between love and loyalty, between honoring your family and protecting yourself, or your child.
This story matters because it speaks to the silences that live in so many families, the kind that aren’t healed by justice alone, but by reckoning, vulnerability, and compassion. By supporting this project, you’re giving voice to survivors, caregivers, and the complicated love between them. This isn’t just about trauma; it’s about the strength it takes to repair what was broken, especially when the damage lives in the spaces between two people who love each other but don’t know how to show it. We hope this film will spark conversations, bring comfort, and remind people that healing is possible, even when it seems out of reach.
