Hi everyone,
There’s a first time for everything, and today I am stepping into new territory - reaching out for a co-worker and friend in hope that, together, we can make a meaningful difference.
A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon a heartbreaking post on the Nextdoor app. A young woman named Sabrina had discovered a stray dog in her apartment complex. He was alone, hungry, begging for food and water. Then, in an act of unimaginable cruelty, someone opened their door and shot him in the leg.
Furious and heartbroken, I immediately tried to contact Sabrina. She told me that she had been caring for him, feeding him outside her back door every day. But she couldn’t bring him inside—her roommate had a large dog, and space was limited. Desperate to keep him safe, she pleaded for help in finding him a home before someone else hurt him.
Determined, I spread his story far and wide—posting on Facebook, Nextdoor, Ring, and reaching out to friends and coworkers. We received a flood of prayers and kind words, but no real solutions. Shelters were overflowing; surrendering him would have meant euthanasia within days.
Just when hope seemed to be slipping away, Sabrina and I decided to share his story one last time. And then, we caught a break. A coworker in Charlotte reached out—she wanted him. There was only one challenge: she lived nearly seven hours away.
Without hesitation, we devised a plan. We would split the journey, meeting in the middle to make sure this sweet pup—now named Blueberry (or Bluby short)—found his way to safety. We coordinated with Sabrina, picked up Blue, and drove him to South Carolina.
And that’s when fate worked its magic. The moment Blueberry met my coworker, it was love. He had finally found a home—a family that adored him. But as life often does, it threw a curveball.
My coworker is now facing an unforeseen challenge. She has to leave for 30 days due to a medical emergency and has no one to care of Blue during her absence. Boarding is the only option. On top of that, she has already scheduled his neutering upon her return—another necessary expense.
She has poured her heart and wallet into Blue’s care—covering his vet bills, shots, and medications without ever asking for a dime. But now, we need help. The cost of boarding and medical care is estimated between $3,000 and $4,000.
This is a call to all animal lovers. If you can find it in your heart to make a donation, no amount is too small. Every dollar helps. And if you happen to live in Charlotte and can foster Blue for 30 days, that would be a miracle in itself.
If you have any questions, need more details, or would like to see vet invoices and boarding quotes, she is happy to provide them.
Let’s come together to ensure Blueberry stays with the family he was meant to be with.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and may you be blessed for your kindness.
