Life for Motasim’s family, led by my courageous brother has been a relentless battle. Motasim, a father of five, faces unimaginable challenges as three of his children – Mohnad (10), Menna (8), and Nour (18) – are suffering from the devastating genetic disorder known as Usher syndrome. This rare and debilitating condition causes both hearing and vision loss, often leading to complete blindness.
A Story of Strength and Resilience
Mohnad, the middle child of three battling Usher Syndrome, has faced the toughest journey. He was born completely deaf, requiring a cochlear implant at just two years old. Unfortunately, his sight has progressively deteriorated due to retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative eye disease. Today, Mohnad relies on constant care for daily activities and struggles to recognize familiar faces.
Menna, the youngest affected child, echoes Mohnad's fight. While cochlear implants restored her hearing, she too grapples with the early stages of retinitis pigmentosa, blurring the world around her.
War Shatters a Fragile Existence
Before the war, Motasim, a food wholesaler, tirelessly worked to provide for his family's basic needs. While resources were scarce, the family had a roof over their heads and access to essential care for their children. However, the war ripped apart their world. Forced to flee their home in Gaza City, they now find themselves living in a tent, stripped of even the most basic necessities. Motasim's business, reliant on his access to a specific delivery bus, is now inoperable, leaving the family with no source of income.
