I'm Peggie Dutch, Melissa Morfeld's Aunt.
In late April 2016 Melissa took her own life. Almost a month later, they found her in her car, alone, in a Wal Mart parking lot.
September was Suicide Prevention month. I learned more that month than ever before. When you think a 21 year old in your family deserves privacy & space, think again. Separating themselves from their family is a red flashing light. I hadn't heard from her in two months.
Melissa had a miscarriage. We don't believe she sought treatment. The note she left behind told us that every day thereafter she wanted to die. That she had unsuccessfully made attempts previously.
When you get that call that someone in your own family commited suicide... I believe it to be one of the worst experiences one can have in life.
My nephew is 12 years old. Melissa's little brother wants desperately a place to visit his sister. At this time he goes to a closet where he takes the plastic box from the funeral home out, sets it on a coffee table. This is how he visits her today. It's too much for him to see that plastic box out in the open where he lives.
My brother, her Dad, Chris, would never do this. He isn't good at asking for anything but is always willing to help a family member or friend. With his consent, I am asking for help.
I'm hoping to raise the funds by the end of 2016. I'm hoping to make 2017 a better year for my brother, Melissa's older sister by 370 days and most importantly, for her little brother.
Raising this money will take just one more thing off of my brother's shoulders. He simply doesn't have the funds to do so & feels less than because of it.
As with any of your own family members, you would do what you could to help them in their time of need. That is exactly what I'm trying to do.
We appreciate donations of any size and understand when one isn't possible. Even if you cannot help fund this, please share.
God Bless,
Peggie
