The Eureka Wildcat Fishing Team went to sleep Sat night prepared and eager to wake up and bring home a win on Sun. Instead, one of life’s hard lessons was in store. People aren’t always good.
Before the sun came up, they found someone had broken into their captain’s boat and stolen years worth (thousands of dollars worth) of tackle, fishing rods, reels, hooks, worms, gear and personalized items of sentiment from birthday gifts and hard earned money these kids have disciplined themselves to save for, instead of video games and junk. This is one of the many perks that comes from being involved in the Eureka Fishing Club; these young people are serious about fishing!! If you’ve seen the many trips and posts over the last couple years, you know what a difference this club has made in our boys’ (and our family’s) life.
To say Roman & Brayden were devastated looking around to see everything they own missing, only moments before their tournament is an understatement. Another team, Priesmeyer/Evans, had the very same thing happen and it’s just been such a punch in the gut. We’ve agreed to do whatever we could to help these kids get back on the water, recuperated.
My husband, Chris Brown, shared his frustration of the incident on Facebook, more so to vent, not anticipating the massive outpouring of kindness and support from friends, family and our community. At first we said we absolutely could not accept or allow folks to send these requests & donations, but to let these kids see how amazing humans actually ARE & how incredible this world can be, after they've gone through such a rotten experience, we wanted them to feel that. Over the last 12hrs, we have had friends, family, companies and strangers asking where can we give back to these boys?!
So we did anxiously agree to open up a page for a short time only to allow them a peek into good humanity and for those who have asked about actual gear/rods/tackle, please feel free to reach out to one of us directly for an address. We’d be happy to help get these boys back on their feet again and will work out whatever is needed to make that happen.
People, you’re too much, but here you are. Thank you and God Bless.
