AN INTRODUCTION
Two estranged sisters visit their family home for one night. Together, they are forced to address their tumultuous relationship while waiting for their father to arrive.
“A Place For Ashes” is a short indie-drama that explores shared sibling trauma and how we put pressure on outside relationships to avoid what’s right in front of us.
WHY THIS FILM?
Our directors, Brianne Neira and Melissa Ingle, were frustrated with the way sisterhood has been depicted on the screen. Both have their own experience of being the older or younger sibling, and they could stay up all night on zoom recounting their stories.
Every day we are forced to make decisions on the relationships we want to maintain, and that becomes more complex when it comes to family. Usually, you don't really have a choice but to engage with family, even if you have nothing in common but blood.
“A Place for Ashes'' deals with many themes, such as desiring approval, sisterly love, and what to do with a toxic relationship when it has outstayed its welcome. Particularly, what happens when you have a destructive relationship with your own sibling?
THE PLAN
Making a movie is expensive, and the team has done all we can to offset as much cost as possible. However, we can still use your help!
Your donation will go towards the following:
Renting Camera and Camera Lenses
Renting Sound Equipment
Hiring an Audio Engineer
Props and Costuming
Craft Services
Festival Submission Fees
