A Norwegian hike lasting 35 days...
What
My name is Samuel Beutler and I am embarking on a pilgrimage.
A pilgrimage is a journey by foot to a holy site. It is an act of devotion to God.
This pilgrimage is known as “St Olaf’s Way.” King Olaf united Norway and brought Christianity to the nation.
The route begins in Oslo and goes north to Trondheim, where King Olaf is said to have been buried.

Why
- Prayer and solitude
- Endurance, walking an average of 5 - 8 hours a day
- Writing
The mind, like the stomach, needs to digest. As a writer, this distraction-free journey will help me create new ideas and clarify existing ones.
How
From Oslo north to Trondheim, waking at least 643 km
(That’s 400 miles - or an estimated 866,526 steps)
I will be wild-camping in a tent or under open shelters. I will continue marching north, whether through rain, fog, or storms.
Funds go to:
- Gear (Tent, sleeping bag, mat, etc)
- Food (Norway is expensive)
- Flights to and from Norway
- A bit of pocket money for museums
- Generosity to others on the journey
When
A month and a half of walking from July 2nd - mid August.
You will get…
