Jimmy Buffett believed the ocean was something to protect, not just admire. Music was his language, but the sea was always the message underneath it.

In his honor, a living memorial called the Parrot Head Reef is being created ten miles off Key West - one of the places he loved most. Instead of a statue or a plaque on land, this memorial will live underwater, becoming part of the ocean itself. The reef will be made up of individual reef balls, each weighing hundreds to over a thousand pounds, designed to support marine life while carrying a small bronze plaque that tells a story.

The Parrot Head Reef is a collaboration between Parrot Heads in Paradise and Eternal Reefs, a nonprofit dedicated to creating living legacies that help restore marine ecosystems. The reef is fully permitted through Monroe County and will be placed outside the sanctuary boundary to ensure long-term environmental protection. In the week leading up to the planned deployment on September 1, 2026 (weather permitting), the completed memorials will be displayed in Key West before being lowered into the water.

This fundraiser supports the purchase and placement of reef balls for this project. Every contribution goes directly toward the reef's construction, deployment, and long-term environmental impact. This effort is not only about remembrance - it is about preservation. It is about turning a shared love for music, the ocean, and community into something that will continue to grow and give back for generations.
