My Name is Daud, I reside in Purley and have been helping a Palestinian for the last year while he applied for asylum. I know this brother personally, and have had him stay in my house. He is a beautiful soul, and is a Qari with a beautiful voice. He has led prayers at Purley Jummuah on one occasion and leads prayers at a masjid near his asylum hotel. He is eager to have his asylum confirmed so he can start working. However, the government has a staunch anti -immigration stance and does not consider Palestine a place where people are oppressed. Whatever you can give to help him and his family will be received with gratitude and is Zakat eligible. Below are his own words about his situation and while he doesn't want to say himself his own health condition was exacerbated by being hit while in custody in his homeland.
"I am a young Palestinian man from the city of Ramallah. I am currently residing in the United Kingdom after submitting an asylum application, having arrived from Egypt following a period of residence in Jordan. My case has now been referred to the court for consideration. The primary reason for seeking asylum is the real danger I faced in my home country, where I was subjected to arrest, beating, and mistreatment due to my stance against injustice imposed upon us.
As for my family, they were forced to relocate to Jordan after being compelled to evacuate their home, amid deteriorating security conditions and continued harm directed at them, which made it impossible for them to remain there. They are currently enduring extremely difficult humanitarian circumstances and urgently require assistance to secure suitable housing and cover the costs of moving their furniture, in addition to achieving basic stability, Insha'Allah. Furthermore, my mother requires ongoing medical treatment and regular follow-up care, which adds to their burdens.
With regard to my situation, I need to appoint a lawyer to pursue my case before the court and must pay part of the legal fees, particularly as some lawyers are reluctant to take on asylum cases due to the low government-funded remuneration. I also incur modest monthly expenses for contact lenses, as I suffer from corneal damage. These lenses serve as a temporary solution until my circumstances stabilize and I am able to undergo the necessary surgical procedures, Insha'Allah.
Although I am entitled to free medical treatment supported by the government, I have not been able to benefit adequately due to long waiting times and limited responsiveness within the healthcare system. Consequently, I have at times been compelled to seek treatment in the private sector. I have not yet been granted permission to work.
After outlining the difficult circumstances that my family and I are facing, I sincerely hope for your support to help us overcome this hardship. I also kindly ask you to remember us in your prayers.
May Allah reward you abundantly, bless your provision, protect you from harm, and grant you happiness in this life and the Hereafter.
Jazakom Allah Khair."
