Help Save Emily: My Best Friend, My Heart, My Hero

My name is Brenda, and I’m a nurse who’s been fighting to save the life of someone who saved mine—my 9-year-old toy poodle, Emily.

Emily has been by my side since the beginning of my nursing journey. During nursing school and the darkest days of the pandemic, she was my constant support, waking me up for exams, comforting me through 12-hour shifts, and giving me a reason to smile when everything felt like too much.

Today, I’m asking for your help because Emily is now fighting for her life.

What Happened

Emily was rushed to the ER and diagnosed with Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)—a life-threatening emergency. She's also battling kidney disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, and now has developed a heart murmur.

The vet team has been incredible, but the truth is: her condition is complex and she’s sicker than most DKA patients. They’ve stabilized her blood sugar with IV insulin, but she still can't eat on her own and needs continued hospitalization, round-the-clock care, and potentially a feeding tube.

Despite everything, she still looks at me with trust in her eyes, she wants to live.

The Cost

The current estimate for Emily's care is over $8,000–$10,000, and that only covers 48 hours of treatment. We’ve already spent everything we have. I’m doing everything I can, but as a nurse supporting my parents and facing this crisis alone, I simply can’t afford the extended critical care Emily needs.
