A Nhyla Collection for Cancer

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Dina and I'm fundraising for Nhyla.

Have you ever found a treasure?

Well, now you have, to meet Nhyla O'Garro who is only 9 years old and has bone cancer. The last few months have been a painful nightmare for the family of 5. Nhyla’s family is incredibly strong while holding faith in their hearts for their sweet baby girl to be able to return to her active lifestyle of gymnastics and swimming.

On October 22, Nhyla was complaining of mild pain in her arm off and on for about 2 weeks before it got progressively worse after physical activities. It started after gymnastics one evening. Tylenol would ease the pain but her mom decided to take her to the doctor. They were told it's just growing pains and can last up to a year.
Nhyla’s parents tried to wait it out whilst observing the pain pattern, however after 4 weeks, they returned to the doctor at which point her mother insisted they do an X-ray. That started a whirlwind of further checks, 2 MRIs, 2 CT scans, a biopsy, a full body bone scan, and lab work. Diagnosis: Osteosarcoma of the upper arm.

After confirming her diagnosis, Nhyla began 2 weeks later with chemo and had completed 3 rounds of treatment which the doctors are treating aggressively to save Nhyla’s arm. To say the least, their sweet little girl will need a bone graft and possibly an elbow replacement.

“It takes a village to raise a child, especially a sick one”

That this bone cancer journey the O'Garro family has begun will be scary and difficult for them. It is especially difficult on little Nhyla because, Cancer and its treatment process, take a toll on so many levels, including finances. Her parents alternating between working, spending weekly visits at the children’s hospital for treatments, and not having much family locally available, is a true testament to what parents are capable of.

We hope that all the collections of donations will help Nhyla and her family in this time of struggle. We are truly grateful for any assistance you are inspired to offer. And, of course, please continue to pray for this beautiful family that through God’s love and with the help of friends, family, and supporters that Nhyla will beat cancer, save her arm and receive at least one of her biggest birthday wishes. To go on her 1st Girl’s Trip with friends to the Great Wolf Lodge after she is well! Most of all, she just wants to be able to attend school again to learn and be amongst her peers, since this path is leading down a lonely road having to cancel most social activities, for fear of catching an infection and her bone getting fractured, as was advised by the doctor.

Even though Nhyla is going through so much, she is always thinking about other kids that are suffering from cancer and wanted to give teddy bears for them to hug and cry to when they are sad or feel alone.

We will continue to post updates on Nhyla’s journey as we fight to get her back skating, swimming, gymnastics, and more! At least, she hasn't lost her smile, she is an encouragement to all that interact with her.

We hope you will consider contributing, and sharing our fundraiser link, too.

With love and gratitude,
The O’ Garro family and friends
