Following all of your kind messages, we’ve decided to set up a GoFundMe for Emily’s new wheelchair.

Next on our list to help Emily keep up with her peers — and to make her day-to-day life that bit more comfortable — is a lightweight, custom wheelchair. Sadly, the NHS is overwhelmed with requests, and while they do their best, we’re still waiting. Emily came out of her leg casts over a month ago, yet she’s still using a chair designed to accommodate those very casts — meaning she can’t even sit in a normal position.

Right now, she’s wheeling herself around in a chair that weighs more than double her body weight — and that’s before she’s even in it! At nearly 5 years old, Emily weighs just 10kg and is about the size of an average 18-month-old. She uses so much energy just to get herself moving that she finds it hard to gain weight, and often ends up exhausted.

The type of chair she needs is about 8kg, lightweight, pink (of course ), and built to be quick and agile. In other words, built for Emily — so she can whizz around like every other child her age. So she can play, laugh, and move without relying on someone to push her.

We’ve looked into charities, but many are only for children not eligible for NHS chairs — even if the ones provided aren’t fit for purpose — and many have closed their books due to overwhelming demand.

The chair will cost between £4,000–£5,000, depending on final fittings. It’s a huge amount — but whatever Emily needs, we’ll find a way. Because she deserves nothing less than the world.
