A New Start for Mum After Life Changed Forever

On 15th February 2025, just four hours after landing in Singapore, I got a call from my husband who said:

“I’m so sorry to have to say this to you, but your mum has had a cardiac arrest.”

Thousands of miles away my legs buckled underneath me.

Thankfully, my incredible aunt Sally was with my mum when she collapsed. Thanks to her and the heroic NHS teams, my mum survived.

My mum is the kind of woman who makes everyone feel seen. She’s selfless, bold, creative, hilarious and full of warmth. She's a mother, an aunt, a therapist, a healer, a performer, a dancer and a friend. She’s magic in human form.

What happened?

Although she survived the cardiac arrest, her spinal cord didn’t receive the oxygen it needed. When she woke up, her legs didn’t.

So now, unfortunately my mum is paralysed from the chest down.

Despite being grateful beyond words that she’s still here with us, her life has changed forever.

Why we're asking for help

As a self-employed trauma therapist, Mum’s income disappeared overnight. We’re now facing a future full of urgent and expensive needs - from specialist equipment to housing adaptations, rehab and ongoing care.

Honestly, it’s overwhelming but even the smallest donation can make a huge difference.

Right now, we don't know what the future holds and there's a lot of unknowns. We do know, however, that creating a 'new normal' takes time and money.
