A New Start for Judy and Her Horses

Hi friends, I’ve started a secret GoFundMe for my sister Judy — my only sister, my big sister, and someone I’ve loved and looked up to my entire life. She was always the coolest person in the room.

Since Judy was a child, she was enamored with horses. Everything in our shared bedroom was horses: posters, models, clothing with pictures of horses. It was almost like destiny for her to become a jockey, as she did starting in the 1970s.

Almost 40 years ago, she moved to central Florida, horse country, to fulfill her destiny as a racehorse jockey. One dark morning before sunrise, she was on her way to the racetrack for a race. On her way there, she was involved in a terrible car accident with a logging truck that was making an illegal run in the dark with no lights on the back of the trailer. She slammed into the back of the trailer before she knew what happened. From that accident, she lost the ability to ever ride horses again. She was in a body cast for months, had massive facial reconstruction, with pins in her neck, and ended up suing the logging company.

After her year-long recovery and getting a settlement from the logging company, she was able to buy a small piece of land, build a single-story house, and home two horses. She even gave my oldest brother an acre of land as well as giving my parents an acre of land to live on for their retirement and last 10 years of their lives, taking care of them both before they passed away. My brother has since moved off the land.

Over the years, she met a fellow jockey who became her partner. Besides living with her on her farm, he helped her manage the property, breed some horses, and even was the trainer for their racing thoroughbred, Sammy The Red Rocker. (Sammy wasn't the best racehorse though, and they lost a lot of money.)

A few years ago, Judy and her man became estranged and he left. Her life became quite difficult trying to manage the farm by herself, and at 67 she realized that it was too much for her to handle. She lives on a fixed income from disability and is struggling to make ends meet.

She decided that her only option would be to sell the farm and move to a smaller piece of land as well as find homes for her two now elderly horses. She feels devastated to have to lose them, as any horse person will understand. They are her babies.

Once she decided to make the move, she knew she would need to get the house and the property ready for sale. But for some reason, the Universe seems against her.

She was repainting the garage in August of last year when the ladder she was standing on fell and took her with it. She broke her ankle and had a long recovery, which sent her into a depression. She has no one to help her get the house ready and now is afraid to try to do these things by herself.

And as I stated, the Universe has made things even worse over the last month with her wall unit microwave and oven both dying within a week of each other, and yesterday her washing machine simply died.

She does not have the funds to be able to buy or repair all of these things as she only gets a small disability check, and all of her savings are almost tapped out. I have given her as much as I can afford and feel so terrible and heartbroken for her when we talk each week.

She's a good person who truly needs a break.

So, I am asking anyone who might hear my heartfelt plea to help my dear sister out.
Anything you could contribute would be so appreciated. And if you cant, might you consider sharing this link?
Thank you so very much!
