Hello. My name is Camiya Spruell. I am a single mother of 3 and I have Lupus. Recently, my children and I were told we would not have our lease renewed here at Town Center Apartments in Champaign, IL due to retaliation from the current property manager. I have lived here since April 5,2023 with not one complaint from management or neighbors.

The condition of the property is awful. There is trash and broken glass everywhere. The hallways are unkept. Myself and multiple tenants do not have a lease. The property was taken over by a company called Evergreen Corp based out in Chicago on March 7, 2025. The office staff is rude and refuses to fix anything here. I have launched multiple complaints to the office, Evergreen Corp, Housing, and the tenant union since March 2025. I have sent emails, made calls, and even voiced my concerns in person. Myself, among multiple tenants, have complained for months with our concerns going unheard.

Due to me exposing the conditions of the property, I was served with a “NON-Renewal of Lease” on 07/07/2025. I have never been late on my rent. I never caused any issues. The non-renewal stated that I was in non-compliance with my lease due to me fighting on the premises. The fight never occurred. Again, I have lupus and barely go outside due to the heat or cold. The police report was never filed or presented. No evidence at all. Just a shady property manager. My final straw was when she disrespected my 15 year old son simply because I’m his mother.

I was going to fight the entire incident, but it is not worth it. My children deserve a better environment with respectful people among them.

I was blessed to find another apartment in a better environment, but I am $700 short on the moving fees. I do work. I need help getting a truck and new beds for my 3 children. Anything helps. My goal is $700, but I’m grateful for $0.07.

I am not looking for sympathy and I will NEVER stop speaking up for what’s right. Please help me and my children get out of Town Center Apartments. We have until August 31, 2025.
