Hi everyone,
My name is Allison, and I’m creating this GoFundMe for brother in law, Walter, a 62-year-old Las Vegas resident who is truly one of the most loyal and loving people you could ever meet. A devoted husband, stepdad, brother, uncle, and friend.
Walter was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) in 2021, and over time his condition progressed to the point where his lungs could no longer support him. On January 8th, 2026, Walter was admitted to Cedars-Sinai in end-stage respiratory failure. The very next day, January 9th, he was placed on the lung transplant list.
In an incredible blessing, Walter was gifted a second chance at life through a generous donor, and on January 13th, 2026, he underwent a bilateral (double) lung transplant. On January 18th, 2026 Walter was able to come off the ventilator.
Right now, Walter is still in the ICU while his new lungs begin the hard work of healing and adjusting. The transplant was a miracle, but the recovery is a long road, and it comes with overwhelming expenses.
Walter will be on 20+ medications per day, many of which come with significant copays, and he will need to remain close to Cedars-Sinai for at least 3 months for constant monitoring, follow-up appointments, labs, and transplant care.
We are asking for support to help cover:
Prescription copays and transplant medications
Temporary housing near Cedars-Sinai
Travel costs, food, and basic living expenses during recovery
Medical supplies and unexpected transplant-related costs
Walter is the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to help someone else. He has always shown up for the people he loves — and now we’re hoping to surround him with that same support.
Walter keeps talking about the day he’s strong enough to recover fully and get back to the things he loves most: traveling, spending time with family, and playing golf with his friends again.
If you’re able to donate, share, or simply keep Walter in your prayers/thoughts, our family would be deeply grateful. Every bit helps more than you know.
Thank you so much
Allison
