A New RV for Harold, Unhoused Oakland Leader
Donation protected
Our friend Harold needs a new RV! Someone recently smashed into the side of his current vehicles, leaving significant damage.
Harold is a 44-year-old Black man with a kind smile who lives with his partner in a curbside community in East Oakland. He was born at San Francisco General and grew up in Oakland, where he has lived for most of his life other than a few years in Concord with his sons and their mother. He describes growing up in the 1980s and ‘90s as a time with “a lot going on.” Drugs were everywhere and it was easy to get caught up in “the streets.” Several years back, Harold’s mother returned to the Philippines where she was born, while he and his three adult siblings stayed behind.
Since moving to the RV camp where he lives now, Harold has stepped into a leadership role. He maintains a porta potty for his fellow unhoused neighbors, and helps to distribute donations of food and supplies. When he first moved there, he noticed that no one was filling this role, so he took the “self-initiative” out of a desire to help others and keep things running as smoothly as possible. He thought that taking care of himself and his community was the “morally correct” thing to do.
Harold works hard to keep his space clean and usable, which has been extra difficult since his home was smashed into. This left him with lots of debris, and his car was also damaged. He enjoys cooking and tinkering, and recently adopted a kitten.
Please help us get Harold a new RV! We estimate a cost of roughly $4000-5000, all of which will go directly toward the purchase of a new motorhome for Harold and his partner, and other relevant costs.
