Meet Dodge – A Brave Boy Who Deserves a Second Chance

When Dodge was just a tiny puppy (only 6–8 weeks old), he was attacked. In the months that followed, he slowly lost the ability to open his mouth — something that was unfortunately not discovered during his emergency visit to Oklahoma Veterinary Specialists.

For the past 4½ years, Dodge has adapted to this unimaginable challenge. He has learned to pick up food gently with his front lips and maneuver it into a small space where it can enter his mouth. It takes him 30–45 minutes to finish a meal, but he does it. Because he cannot open his mouth to pant, he can only be outside for short periods in warm weather. And yet — he has continued on with quiet resilience.

We only recently learned of Dodge’s condition when his devoted owner brought him to us. She loves him dearly, but she is entering a senior living facility that cannot accommodate a dog of his size. Wanting the very best for him, she asked for our help in finding him a safe and loving future.

Now there is hope.

Dodge will soon undergo surgery to correct his jaw condition, giving him the opportunity to live a more comfortable and normal life. We are urgently seeking a temporary foster who can monitor him closely during his recovery period. A volunteer is already committed to helping with transportation to follow-up veterinary appointments — we just need a safe, calm place for him to heal.

Dodge weighs 53 pounds and is believed to be a Lab mix, possibly with Greyhound. He is fully potty trained and has been a cherished house dog his entire life. He sleeps in bed with his person and thrives on companionship and love.

After everything he has endured, Dodge deserves the chance to run, play, and pant freely for the first time in years.
