My name is Jamil Pierre. I am thirty three years old, and I am a father.
In January 2016, I lost my leg. Since that day, I have walked on crutches. I live in Vieux Fort, Saint Lucia, where the roads are rural and uneven, where specialized medical care is hard to reach, and where there is no government system to help me or my daughter.
Life has not been easy. But I have never stopped working. I am a diver. It is how I feed my family. Every day, on one leg and crutches, I find a way to keep going, because I have someone counting on me.
Her name is Jameela. She is seven years old, and I am raising her on my own. She is the reason I get up every morning. She is the reason I keep diving. And she is the reason I am finally asking for help.
I am not asking for pity. I am asking for a chance.
A prosthetic leg would change everything. It would let me walk more easily on these roads, move with less pain, and keep doing my work safely so I can provide for Jameela and build the future she deserves. It would give me back my mobility, my independence, and my dignity.
