This fundraiser ensures the completion of a professionally published memoir by an investigative journalist whose work led to exile.

Hi, my name is Luis Nájera, I am a veteran, exiled journalist and acclaimed author in Canada fundraising for the urgent renewal of my laptop. A few days ago, my old Macbook Pro from 2015 crashed while working on my upcoming book.

I need my laptop to finish my overdue memoir project where I'm sharing my journey from investigative journalist reporting transnational organized crime along the US-Mexico border to becoming a refugee in Canada. The book will be published by one of the top printers in the industry. Furthermore, the computer allows me continuing with the production of my Spanish-speaking podcast "Dos Amigos", an informative yet still unprofitable 30-minutes long program I host, edit and publish using the tools available in my old Mac.

I want to be fully transparent: I need a Mac computer. Over the years, my work has become deeply integrated with macOS-based software, archives, and updates that are not compatible with Windows systems. Transitioning platforms would mean losing access to critical material and setting my work back even further. I have included a screenshot showing the estimated cost of a replacement laptop.

I wish my circumstances allowed me to absorb this expense on my own—but they do not. This fundraiser is my way of asking for help so I can continue the work I have dedicated my life to: documenting truth, preserving memory, and giving voice to stories that are often silenced.
