My name is Scott Parrish. I'm a husband, father of 3, bonus dad of 3, school bus driver, martial artist, and Marine. I need a new hip so that I can get back to being the best version of me. I'm having surgery on 1 June 2020 to get my new hip. I'm asking for your help to meet uncovered medical expenses related to my surgery and recovery. Here's a bit of my story...
I've spent the 30 or so years training martial arts. I began as many teen boys do wanting to be like Jean Claude VanDamme or Chuck Norris or Bruce Lee. I spent time reading and watching their movies, largely teaching myself their moves and trying imitate what i saw.
I entered the Marine Corps in 1989 and was introduced to the Marine Corps L.I.N.E. system - my desire to learn more exploded from there. I started training Shotokan Karate in 1990, then started training as a kickboxer in 1991. I trained any time I had the chance. I had several different jobs in the Marine Corps and was fortunate enough to learn some very valuable skills. I got to jump out of planes, repel from helicopters, learned how to be a professional marksman and spent time teaching others how to improve their shooting skills as well. All the while learning how to teach Marine Corps skills, and also develop an understanding of how to effectively teach self defense to civilians.
I started teaching martial arts professionally about 11 years ago. I have a passion for helping people learn how to properly defend themselves. About 3 years ago, while teaching a class, I pulled a groin muscle - or so I thought. Turns out that pulled muscle just revealed an underlying situation in my right hip that was much more severe. I have bone on bone arthritis and need a hip replacement. The ache and pain I feel on a daily basis makes it extremely difficult to do most anything. I've had cortisone injections, gone through PT, chiropractic treatment...you name it, I've tried it...replacement of my hip will allow me the opportunity to get back to my full capability of teaching and helping others.
