Hello, my name is Sara, I am Betsabet's mother.

My daughter Betsabet came into our lives in April 2024, a healthy and joyful baby. During her first 9 months everything seemed normal, but on December 29, 2024, our lives changed forever. That day we decided to take her to the emergency room because she had been sick for a few weeks. Her primary care doctor hadn’t noticed anything unusual, but at the hospital we received a devastating diagnosis: heart failure. A few weeks later it was confirmed that she actually had dilated cardiomyopathy.

Her little heart was working at its limit. The left ventricle was much larger than normal, and her heart function was only 5%, when normal is around 55%. That diagnosis shattered her father’s and my heart.

Almost a week after being admitted, Betsabet had to undergo surgery for the placement of a VAD (ventricular assist device) on the left side of her heart. This device keeps her safe while she waits for what she truly needs: a heart transplant that will allow her to keep living. She remained in intensive care for about a month, fighting every single day with incredible strength.

Thanks to God, during these past months Betsabet has remained stable, without major changes or serious complications. We have now been waiting for almost 10 months on the transplant list for a perfect little heart that can restore her health and give her the chance to grow up.

This GoFundMe is mainly for Betsabet, to cover any expenses related to her and everything she needs during this very difficult waiting period. After she receives that perfect heart and we can finally return home with her, the funds will continue to be used for her recovery and ongoing care.

Hola, mi nombre es Sara y soy la mamá de Betsabet.

Mi hija Betsabet llegó a nuestras vidas en abril de 2024, una bebé sana y llena de alegría. Durante sus primeros 9 meses todo parecía normal, pero el 29 de diciembre de 2024 nuestras vidas cambiaron para siempre. Ese día decidimos llevarla a la sala de emergencias porque había estado enferma durante algunas semanas. Su pediatra no había notado nada fuera de lo común, pero en el hospital recibimos un diagnóstico devastador: insuficiencia cardíaca. Unas semanas después, se confirmó que en realidad tenía miocardiopatía dilatada.

Su pequeño corazón estaba trabajando al límite. El ventrículo izquierdo estaba mucho más grande de lo normal y su función cardíaca era solo del 5%, cuando lo normal es alrededor del 55%. Ese diagnóstico destrozó el corazón de su papá y el mío.

Casi una semana después de ser hospitalizada, Betsabet tuvo que someterse a una cirugía para la colocación de un VAD (dispositivo de asistencia ventricular) en el lado izquierdo de su corazón. Este dispositivo la mantiene a salvo mientras espera lo que realmente necesita: un trasplante de corazón que le permita seguir viviendo. Permaneció en cuidados intensivos durante aproximadamente un mes, luchando cada día con una fuerza increíble.

Gracias a Dios, durante estos últimos meses Betsabet se ha mantenido estable, sin cambios importantes ni complicaciones graves. Ahora llevamos casi 10 meses esperando en la lista de trasplante por un pequeño corazón perfecto que pueda devolverle la salud y darle la oportunidad de crecer.

Este GoFundMe es principalmente para Betsabet, para cubrir cualquier gasto relacionado con ella y todo lo que necesita durante este difícil periodo de espera. Después de que reciba ese corazón perfecto y podamos finalmente regresar a casa con ella, los fondos seguirán utilizándose para su recuperación y atención continua.
