New Havening: It’s Not Just a Move, It’s a Mood
Donation protected
I’m taking the leap of a lifetime: leaving behind a toxic relationship and an old life in Minneapolis to start fresh in New Haven. This isn’t just a move—it’s the next chapter in a story of resilience, creativity, and finding home. But I can’t do it alone.
For too long, I’ve been stuck in a cycle that drained my joy, creativity, and lust for life. Minneapolis was never supposed to be permanent. I ended up here right before the pandemic, and as the world shut down, I stayed. Over time, things got darker. And darker. And when I say dark I mean DARK, y'all. Even though I’m strong and smart AF, I found myself isolated and stuck, unable to see the forest for the trees. Stepping away this past year gave me the clarity to see not only what had been happening in my life but what I need: to leave, to leap into the unknown, and to rebuild my being.
New Haven represents everything I’ve been craving to survive: community, creativity, and possibility. I’ve found an opportunity to help revitalize Lyric Hall, a historic space, into a non-profit arts hub and gathering place. This move isn’t just about leaving a difficult situation; it’s about stepping into my power, living my purpose, and creating a space where others can thrive, too.
Why I’m Raising Funds:
This isn’t an easy move, but it’s a necessary one. Leaving is a choice to live, to heal, and to create a better future.
Here’s how the funds will be used:
- Moving Costs: Rental truck, gas, and storage for my belongings while I find a permanent home.
- Housing Stability: Covering initial living expenses to help me land on my feet.
- Rebuilding: Establishing a new life in New Haven, with resources for myself and my 13-year-old cat, Kitty.
Every dollar brings me closer to safety, independence, and building a creative home for others.
The Story:
This past summer, I had the chance to step away—to work, teach, and spend time with friends. For the first time in years, I felt truly alive. Those moments helped me realize just how much I had been holding myself back and how necessary this change is.
For years, I stayed in a life that wasn’t working, believing things might improve if I held on just a little longer. But the cost became too great. It wasn’t until I stepped back, even briefly, that I realized I could choose something different.
Now, I’m choosing hope. Choosing to move forward. Choosing to live. This isn’t about blame; it’s about taking responsibility for my growth and happiness. Moving to New Haven is my chance to heal, rebuild, and reconnect with myself.
Sharing this story has already been a lifeline for me. Hearing from others who’ve faced similar struggles gives me strength and determination to keep going. Thank you to everyone who has shared with me so far—your stories give me life and fuel, and I hope this project can be a space where we all inspire each other.
New Havening isn’t just about leaving—it’s about hope. It’s about living, healing, and thriving. With your support, I’m ready to take this step forward.
Be Part of the Journey
This project isn’t just about me. It’s about anyone who’s ever felt stuck, frozen by fear or despair, wondering if they could find a way forward. Your contributions will help me take this critical step toward safety and stability.
Every donation—no matter the size—helps me leap into this new chapter. Sharing this campaign with your network also makes an incredible difference. Together, we can remind each other that no one moves forward alone.
What's in New Haven?
Not only two of my dearest friends and a safe place to stay but also the chance to build something meaningful. Lyric Hall is a historic vaudeville house, and I’m working with an incredible team to transform it into an arts community hub. Updates on what it becomes as it manifests!
Updates:
I’ll share this process as it unfolds—updates from the road, photos of Kitty and Co. (my steadfast co-pilot), and reflections on what it takes to start over. This isn’t just a move; it’s a story of resilience and community coming together.
