A NEW FOOT FOR ADAM

Donation protected

This go fund me is for the most solid of human beings who would never ask for anything from anyone. He is the kindest, gentlest, warmest, most sincere, and resilient young man and it is my HUGE wish that the powerful love and support from the community might slightly soften, or provide some relief from what he has had to go through.

Adam is my daughter Emaree’s boyfriend. He is 27 years young and recently made the unbelievably brave and last resort decision to remove his right foot after eight years of terrible pain, limited function, and chronic infection. Amputation, while devastating and ridden with potential side effects, had become the inevitable option. The silver lining is the surgery may mean improved mobility in the long run, and even hope for him to return to some of the athletic activities he enjoyed prior to his accident.

Thankfully the operation went well, there have been struggles, and the rehab is extensive but the strength in this young man is beyond inspiring. The next step as his leg heals is being fitted for a prosthetic.

We all want so much for this to be an exciting new stage of his life but prosthetics are shokingly expensive, and are not covered by MSP. This is why I am rallying for him, reaching out to the community, and humbly asking for help to bring this new phase of Adam’s life into reality in the most beautiful way possible. Any donation, big or small, simply the act of supporting him would mean the world. This guy deserves it so much.

How did this happen…
In 2016 Adam was on his way to the ski hill with friends when he was involved in a life threatening car accident resulting in a very serious spinal injury. That moment changed his life permanently, and he exchanged several years of normal youth for major trauma recovery. The doctors were uncertain his organs would function and doubtful he would walk again, but with resilience and determination, years of hard work, rehab and varied treatments, he figured out how despite extensive nerve damage and chronic physical pain. That being said, his spinal cord injury was far reaching, and his legs were never the same.

He needed a permanent brace on his right foot, building normal muscle in both legs proved difficult, and his gait would be permanently altered. Adam has pushed through years discomfort, admirably trying to live a normal life to the best of his ability but painful pressure wounds due to lack of sensation would constantly interrupt his ability to use the brace. Without it, he couldn’t walk. Obviously the pain along with inability to walk after working so hard to regain mobility was a huge blow to his quality of life and defeating to his mental health. He fought through this several times, but the ups and downs were discouraging and not a hopeful way forward. So with plenty of tough contemplation, Adam bravely faced the cruel choice between a life of pain and interrupted, limited mobility or amputation with the hope of a brighter more stable future and regained mobility.

It is my sincere hope the community can show him the love and support he deserves and carry him into a new, bright, hopeful future because I promise you, this guy has big gifts for the world. Please let's help him shine and give him both literally and figuratively a new foot.

The cost of his prosthetic is upwards of 20K, and alternative legs (at the same cost or higher) are required for different activities such as running and swimming. Apparently, one can expect a prosthetic limb to need replacing every three years and on top of this there is the obvious cost of inability to work through the recovery. Easing the financial intimidation of the whole thing would be such a gracious and welcome break for him.

Thank you. THANK YOU. From my heart, thank you so much.
