Hello everyone! Our names are William & Melanie. Our sweet baby boy's name is Liam. We reside in Las Vegas! I, Melanie, was born & raised on Saipan. It's a little island next to Guam. William was born in Texas and pretty much moved to Las Vegas when he was a baby. We can all say he's a Vegas native. ;)
At one point I had a thyroid condition and I was told that I might not be able to have kids; however, this miracle came about.
Fast forward to being friends around 2018 to dating that same year, getting married in 2022, and preparing for a family, God blessed us with the sweetest Liam boy in May of 2024.
During utero, his ear development/condition wasn't caught. My OB and his pediatrician didn't know what that condition was. While his left ear turned out perfect, his right ear didn’t develop fully. I then googled, "my baby was born with a deformed ear." It was during my research that we were able to diagnose Liam with Microtia. We searched for doctors throughout the valley; however, we couldn't find specialists who knew and worked with his type of condition. About 1 in 10,000 babies get this condition. Upon requesting appointments from different doctors, we met Dr. John Reinisch from California virtually. On top of thinking that his condition was just cosmetic, Dr. Reinisch informed us that his condition isn't just Microtia. He has Aural Artresia; this is where the ear canal is absent, and the eardrum is missing/underdeveloped. We won't know the second part until he is older. The second part of the surgery will entail the doctor drilling an ear canal. With scans and check-ups, that will determine what else will go with the ear canal situation such as a synthetic eardrum and more.
Right now, we are investing in the first part of the surgery. Although he has a "canal," the inside is actually blocked off.
The first part of the surgery is the ear reconstruction; we are hoping for this to take place this October 31, 2025. With being out of state, we had to consider many variables. We've submitted a claim with our insurance for pre-approval and we don't know how much they will cover since this is out of state and the network varies. For partial insurance or out-of-network coverage, just the first part of the surgery could range up to $50,000.
This is where we are hoping for you to walk alongside us.
Firstly, please pray for us and this unexpected journey we are embarking. We know the Lord has already gone before us! Although it is hard to embrace our baby going through something and the path we are preparing to take, we are still excited and will continue to reassure him of how much he is loved and perfect! Oh, how we wish we could switch spots with Liam boy!
Secondly, will you be able to support us with any amount, financially? Any amount will help us.
Thirdly, please share this link in case someone will be moved to help Liam boy.
To sum up everything, we want to thank you so much in advance for your support. Truly, we are humbled and we can't wait to see what's in store for us.
To our Liam boy, we can't wait to tell you this story. We love you, our little love. We hope this Bible verse will be embedded in your sweet little heart.
"I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well."
Psalm 139:14
