Hello Friends,
My name is Jeannette Brunner and I am preparing to open a little cafe in Tulelake at the previous Jolly Kone location.
This is very exciting for me and my family, to be able to contribute to Tulelake in a way that is desperately needed for our community, providing farm to fork goodness from our local established businesses.
Some background - I grew up cooking with mom, who is an amazing baker. When I was 14 I took over the family meal planning ,shopping and cooking which also taught me how to plan and budget.
I started my own family at 19, which has grown to 8 kids and 2 grandbabies. My husband Dave, who is an HVAC Field Supervisor in Klamath, was also responsible for opening me up to a whole new world of food. His passion for food came from his Italian grandmother. He grew up in the kitchen with her, making homemade meatballs and sausage, cooking for the Elks Lodge, volunteering and cooking at a camp for kids with cancer. We will be bringing all of these delicious foods to your table and more.
In 2020, we moved to Tule from Susanville to be closer to my parents in Malin and plant roots. We have 5 kids still at home, the youngest of which is 5, they all currently attend Tulelake Schools. We want to help bring Tule back to life for everyone, especially the kids. They are the future of the town and if we can restore it to its hay day, they will hopefully stay and raise their families here. Between Dave and I, we have a great appreciation for good, handcrafted food and it represents more than food, it’s care and love. We want to share that with Tulelake and the surrounding communities.
Our friend and Chef, Sara Rodgers has worked in professional kitchens, owned a catering and Private Chef business, and helped John Larsen get Captain Jacks Stronghold Restaurant up and running, working there until it closed in 2022. She fell in love with the area and the people so after John’s passing, she decided to stay. Sara is the one that will help us put that passion into building a successful business, less for us and more for the community.
As many of you know, the Jolly Kone is no longer a restaurant, there is a lot to be done and if all goes well, we plan on opening in July. This GoFundMe will help make that happen, any money raised will go towards equipment, renovations and startup costs. We’d also like to give the City a portion of what’s raised to help pay off the note, this will benefit the business and in turn the community. We are appreciative of any and all donations whether it be money, time, services, equipment etc. If you would like to contribute in any way other than monetary, please contact me via the GoFundMe ‘Send a message’ and I will get back to you promptly. I would also like to bring some history of Tule into the cafe, so if anyone has old signs, pictures that you’d be willing to part with or even stories you’d like to share, please contact me for that as well. Please connect with us on Facebook where we will be updating you on our journey. For all who donated money or services, we will be holding a private party before the official opening to say thank you.
