My name is Nicholas Calloway, and I’m reaching out with a personal request and a story that I hope speaks to the value of perseverance and second chances. For nearly five years, I battled severe depression and persistent suicidal thoughts. It was a period of my life where simply getting through each day felt like a fight for survival. There were many moments where I came dangerously close to giving up entirely. Looking back now, I can say without exaggeration that it was the hardest struggle I have ever faced. During that time, I had to constantly remind myself that my life still held meaning—that I was still a person with dreams, goals, and a future worth fighting for. Holding on to that belief, even when it felt distant, ultimately helped me keep moving forward.
Over time, I was able to rebuild my life. I worked hard to regain stability without medication, secured a new job, and began forming new friendships and connections that helped restore a sense of normalcy and hope. It has been a long road, but one that I am incredibly proud to have walked. As a personal milestone and celebration of that journey, I’ve set a goal to fulfill a dream I’ve held for many years: traveling to Japan. For me, this trip represents more than just tourism—it represents the closing of a difficult chapter and the beginning of a life where I allow myself to pursue the things that inspire me.
The funds raised will help cover travel expenses, lodging, and the costs associated with an international trip. I am contributing as much as I can from my own income, putting aside whatever I can spare from each paycheck. I understand that there are many requests like this, and I do not expect anyone to fully fund this journey. Even so, I believe that meaningful opportunities often come from simply asking and sharing one’s story. If you’re able to contribute—even in a small way—it would mean more than I can express. Your support would help bring this dream within reach and remind me of the power of kindness. Thank you for reading my story and for supporting people and communities like mine.
With gratitude,
Nicholas Calloway.
