A New Beginning After a Lifetime of Silent Struggle
My name is Joshua Shalet. I am 37 years old, a husband, and a father to two beautiful young boys, Rafi (8) and Ari (6). For my entire life, I have been fighting a silent, exhausting battle. I am neurodivergent, diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and ADHD, and I carry the heavy weight of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD), severe anxiety, and clinical depression.
For years, I pushed myself past my absolute limits to provide for my family. I took on jobs, completed training courses, and entered vocational rehabilitation programs, all while trying to manage the overwhelming sensory and emotional overload that comes with my diagnoses. I was constantly told that my profound exhaustion was just in my head, so I kept forcing myself to work harder, running on an empty tank until my mind and body completely collapsed from severe burnout.
The reality of our household is incredibly complex. My wife, Elky, faces her own severe, daily battles with bipolar disorder, a general cognitive impairment, and alexithymia. Because of our combined medical conditions, neither of us is physically or mentally capable of maintaining the basic, daily upkeep of our home right now. We are both experiencing a total functional collapse at the exact same time.
Currently, I am bedridden and undergoing intensive medical treatment, including weekly Spravato therapy sessions at Kfar Shaul Hospital to try and stabilize my treatment-resistant depression and nervous system.
We are a vulnerable family in a state of absolute medical and physical crisis. Our home, where our two little boys deserve to feel safe and cared for, cannot function without immediate, hands-on help. We are urgently applying for government assistance for household chores and daily support, but the bureaucracy takes months to process, and our crisis is happening right now.
We desperately need a bridge to get us through this period of profound collapse. The funds raised through this campaign will go directly toward:
* Paying for private, urgent home help to assist with basic daily chores, cleaning, and meal preparation so our children have a stable environment.
* Covering the costs of public transportation and taxis to and from my weekly medical treatments, as I do not drive.
* Securing immediate, specialized therapeutic support to help me manage this acute burnout and stabilize my health.
Every single day is an immense struggle just to survive, but I am doing everything in my power to build a structured, safe, and stable future for my sons. We cannot do this alone anymore. If you are able to donate or share our story, you will be providing a vital lifeline to a family that has simply run out of strength.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness, your empathy, and your support.
