Imagine having a passion so strong that it shapes your entire life — even when the world around you isn't always designed for the way you think, learn or communicate.

That is Stephanie's story.

Stephanie is neurodivergent and has an intellectual and language disability. From a young age, traditional learning was difficult for her, but there was one thing that always made sense — animals.

Animals became Stephanie's connection to learning, to people and to the world around her.

Instead of allowing her differences to define what she could achieve, Stephanie followed her passion.

She volunteered with wildlife organisations, raised funds, learned through hands-on experiences and travelled to South Africa, where she spent time volunteering with people dedicated to protecting some of the world's most extraordinary animals.

Along the way, something powerful became clear:

When people are given the opportunity to learn through what they love, extraordinary things can happen.

Stephanie began dreaming of a way to share her love of animals with other children — particularly those who, like her, may experience the world a little differently.

That dream became Stephanie's Animal Rescue: Secret Island.

Secret Island is an inclusive educational game app animal rescue adventure where children can explore, discover, solve problems and learn about animals and the environments they depend upon.

Stephanie wants children to feel that they are part of the story — traveling on rescue missions, helping animals in danger and discovering that even small actions can make a difference.

The game is being designed with neurodiverse and neurotypical children in mind, with accessibility, storytelling, voice-over, visual learning and gentle, engaging gameplay forming an important part of its development.

And this isn't just an idea anymore.

With the support of university students, researchers, artists, developers and dedicated volunteers, Stephanie's vision has begun taking shape. Characters have been created. Stories have been written. Research has been undertaken. Development has begun.

But creating a quality game is a huge undertaking — particularly for a small not-for-profit organisation.
