My name is Brooke. I am 38 years old, a mother of 2 beautiful daughters, and blessed with one granddaughter. In 2021, I was mandated to get the COVID vaccine to keep my job to provide for my family. Reluctantly, I took the J&J. Two weeks later, I found myself unable to use my legs. It took 3 months to get 60% function back. I have struggled through medical hurdles, remained working full-time, and being a single mom. I have gone through countless hours of PT/OT, but I refused to stop working because I wanted to do as much as I could for as long as I could. When I had the reaction from the vaccine, it caused my body to attack itself. This caused my pituitary and adrenal glands to stop working. It is life-sustaining for me to have a pump to give myself steroids around the clock. I do not make cortisol, so this is the “man-made” way to accomplish this. I have been using the Omnipod for 8 months but am having a lot of difficulty getting it to stay on my skin and also to make sure I am getting the required steroid dosing. My insurance is giving me a very hard time about paying for the machine. I have found one at a refurbished medical supply place. I will be using any money raised to go towards that.
