This happens to other people, we are all other people.
My twin sister’s life changed forever when four people broke into our home while she was alone. They attacked her, throwing her to the floor, holding a knife to her, and threatening her life. She was kicked and punched repeatedly, even as broken glass from their shoes became embedded in her skin. The trauma she endured that day is something no one should ever have to experience.
On top of the violence, they stole our phones, laptops, wallets, and bags they filled with our belongings. They stabbed the beds, threw objects through the TV screens, and destroyed other property. Despite all this, we received no help in recovering anything that was taken or damaged.
Thanks to her courage, all four attackers were identified and arrested within an hour. But the legal process has been frustrating and unfair—one adult was released on probation, and the other hasn’t been sentenced yet. Meanwhile, my sister and our family can’t return home. None of us feel safe, especially her. Victim services have told us they can’t help, and the bills are piling up. My sister lost her job because of the anxiety, fear, and PTSD she’s now facing. We have nowhere to live, and the mental anguish is overwhelming.
We need help to cover medical bills, counseling, moving expenses, and all the urgent needs that have come from this tragedy. Any support means the world to us. Please read our story and help if you can. Your kindness can help my sister find safety, healing, and hope again.
