Hello, Friends..... We THANK YOU for coming to the site created for our friend, Marianne Osiel!
HERE IS THE SCOOP (i.e. why we're doing what we're doing):
WHO ARE WE?
We are Holly Gornik, a retired symphony musician (Utah Symphony), and Marylyn Coffey, a retired arts administrator (UAH) and musician. We have both admired Marianne as an artist and a person; her sensitivities make her a treasured friend and an astounding performer. The truth is, she needs your help, and she needs it NOW to make a mandatory residential move. She has sold possessions, borrowed, and done Facebook Live Solo shows, but can't bridge the gap, given her circumstances. Listen to just one of her songs, Bless These Blues , and realize that you could make a difference by helping her through these temporary setbacks to bring more of her music into being. We think Marianne’s music is poetic, energetic, and carries positive messages that we all need these days. Creative people can’t create when they’re constantly worried about their survival.
WHAT'S THE SITUATION?
Changes in the music industry even prior to COVID-19 have decimated the income of lifelong professional musicians like Marianne Osiel. Live performances, rehearsals and recording sessions have become rare; pensions and royalties have declined or disappeared. Marianne, who has been a full-time symphony orchestra oboist as well as an acclaimed singer/songwriter/ performer in bands throughout her career, has been drastically affected.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Marianne has found an affordable place to rent in the nature-filled area that she knows and loves in upstate New York, but there are deposits to be paid, movers to hire, well water to be tested/filtered, and other needed repairs to make the place safely liveable, while also continuing her physical therapy for an injured arm--her strumming arm, the injury that occurred two weeks prior while she was doing solo landscaping work for someone in the woods, pulling out small bushes, branches and trees for an hourly wage, a freelance job she found on a local website.
Marianne's actual legal occupation of said living space is October 1, 2020, though she has worked out an arrangement for getting in there early to not have to be paying two rents at once (the old and the new residences). She has been doing extensive cleaning and organizing, along with assessment of real and actual repairs that MUST be made prior to living there, some of which are going to be handled by landlord, and some are necessary on her own at this point. October 8 is the date Marianne is to be out of old living space, and we are hoping for a smooth transition, at least with regard to these dates.
Please see UPDATES for more current information on dates/times/moving needs since this was written.
Also, in addition to her music below, you can find an actual LIVE performance, via Facebook, done at Black Sheep Recording Studios a few weeks ago, HERE ... https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=305638950522964 Watch, and be enlightened!!
