A Mother's Worst Nightmare: Help Serenity & JhiQuavis Heal
Story:
Hello, my name is Kendra Malloy, and I’m reaching out during the most heartbreaking time of my life.
On Saturday, April 29, my daughter Serenity (15 yoa) was shot by the Myrtle Beach Police Department while on her spring break. Serenity was an innocent bystander, caught in a situation that has left us with more questions than answers. Much of the information surrounding the incident has been withheld, and I still don’t fully understand what happened that night.
I was jolted awake by a phone call no mother should ever have to answer. The two-hour drive to reach Serenity was the most agonizing ride of my life—not knowing if she was okay, just knowing she needed me.
Serenity has since undergone two surgeries, a blood transfusion, and is now facing a long recovery from shattered bones in her leg. Her physical wounds are deep—but the trauma and emotional pain may take even longer to heal.
Then, just six days later, on Saturday, May 4, we were blessed to bring Serenity home. It was a day filled with hope, support, and love. Friends and family gathered to help us care for her and to prepare my son, JhiQuavis, for his senior prom. He looked so handsome, so full of life—ready to make memories that should have marked the start of something beautiful.

But joy quickly turned into heartbreak—again.

At 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 5, I got another devastating call. JhiQuavis (18 yoa) had been shot at an after-prom party in our hometown of Laurinburg, NC. I was told to rush to the emergency room. He had been shot in the back and stomach and was airlifted to Chapel Hill Medical Center.
Since then, he has undergone two emergency surgeries on his stomach, and we are now preparing for a third surgery on his back. The pain, fear, and helplessness I’ve felt these past few days is something I wouldn’t wish on any parent.
As a mother, I am doing everything in my power to be strong for both of my children. But the emotional, physical, and financial burden is overwhelming. Within one week, both of my babies were critically injured in unrelated shootings—and our world has been turned upside down.
We are asking for your help—whether through donations, prayers, or simply sharing this page. Your support will help cover:

• Medical expenses not covered by insurance
• Travel costs between hospitals and home
• Ongoing physical therapy and mental health counseling
• Living expenses while I care for both of my children full-time

No mother should ever have to endure this kind of pain. No child should have to suffer so deeply, so young. Yet here we are—leaning on faith, family, and the kindness of our community.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for standing with us in this unimaginable time. Please continue to lift Serenity and JhiQuavis in prayer as we fight every day for their recovery.

With love and gratitude from a praying mother,
Kendra Malloy
