A Mother's Plea for Justice: Cost of Family Court

Donation protected

There have been many women who have faced great struggles in the family court. Unfortunately, family court often favors the party with the greatest wealth and influence. These cases are tragic, not only for the weaker party but for the many children who suffer from losing a parent abruptly, unexpectedly, and without due cause.

I am a life-long friend of this family in the midst of a custody battle spanning 7 years, and God has laid it on my heart to cry out for help on their behalf. I have known this mother since she was born. She deeply loves her children. Her ex-husband is a man who developed great influence and governmental power in our nation’s capital and used political connections to gain custody of their two children in 2016. There was never any charge or proven instance of abuse or neglect by this mother. For years, she has fought with all her might to regain access to her children, sacrificing everything she had. Now her ex-husband has remarried and moved to a new state and different jurisdiction, where his power and influence finally lack impact on the family court judge.

Since that time, this mother has continued to fight for her children. She hired new attorneys who have been an amazing asset, winning every action in this new family court. The new judge has also made it clear that she believes it is in the children’s best interest to be reunited with their mother.

But there is a legal process that must be finalized to achieve that goal, and the mother and her family have exhausted their resources. The legal bills are staggering. She and her family have given everything they have financially to this situation. They are so close, but they cannot afford the outstanding fees, nor the cost of seeing it to the end… which is very likely to result in reunification of this mother and her children after 7 long, heartbreaking years. Losing the mother’s attorney due to inability to pay would be tragic… she has filed a motion for summary judgement which she is likely to win.

The children deserve better. The system, while broken, does include judges who want to do the right thing for the sake of the children. We are calling out with prayers and gratitude in our hearts to all those who wish to contribute to this worthy cause.
