I wish I was writing a normal life update. Instead, I’m writing this because cancer has taken another devastating turn in my life, and I’m facing the hardest fight yet.

Recently I traveled to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York for a second opinion. What we hoped would bring reassurance instead brought heartbreaking news. The doctors confirmed that my cancer has spread. There is now a large tumor in my groin, and the cancer has grown outside of my rectum.

Because of this, all of my treatment and surgeries will now need to take place in New York. I will have to travel there as often as the doctors need me, and for some appointments I will need to stay in the city for multiple days.

The surgery I am facing to remove the cancer is extremely complex and dangerous, expected to take 10–12 hours. The doctors have also told me that I will have my colostomy bag for the rest of my life in order to remove the cancer growing on the outside of my rectum.

I am trying to stay strong, but the reality is overwhelming. Between constant travel to New York, lodging for appointments, gas, parking, food, medical costs, and time away from work, the financial burden is becoming more than my family can handle alone.

As hard as it is for me to ask for help, right now I need it. My focus has to be on fighting this cancer and staying here for my family. Any donation, no matter the amount, will help cover travel expenses, lodging, and the costs that come with this long and difficult road ahead.
