A Mother's Dream to Share the Beautiful language of ASL

Help Us Learn the Beautiful Dance of Sign Language

Hello everyone,

My name is Melissa, and I am a mother to one incredible daughter, Kairee. I'm starting this GoFundMe with a deeply personal goal: to finally learn a new language with my daughter, and in doing so, share in the beautiful art of sign language.

Throughout my life, I've struggled to learn other languages. I've tried since I was a child to learn Spanish, but the knowledge never seemed to stick. What I've always truly wanted to learn, though, is sign language. To me, it is more than a language; it is a beautiful blend of communication and dance.

When my daughter was born, I dreamed of sharing this beautiful language with her from birth. But without a learning partner, I feared I would forget what I learned, just as I had with other languages.

Now that she is 10, she has shown a wonderful interest in learning with me. We're on this journey together now, and it means everything to me to have her support and partnership.

We want to learn American Sign Language (ASL) because it's the language of our community. My daughter has a truly big heart and wants to be able to connect with and include everyone, especially those who are often misunderstood or left out. Learning sign language together will give us a new, powerful way to do just that.

I recently found an incredible program called Lingvano, which teaches ASL in a fun, interactive way. It’s exactly the type of resource that works for my learning style, and it’s something I could use daily with my daughter. Unfortunately, after only one and a half lessons, I discovered that it requires a subscription that I simply can’t afford right now — $17 per month or $119 per year.

Any donation, big or small, will directly go toward the subscription fee for Lingvano (or a similar high-quality learning program if one becomes available). If more is raised than needed for one year, the remainder will be used to cover a second year or additional learning materials, such as printable pages for practice and reference.

This campaign is not just about learning a new skill. It's about a mother's dream to overcome a lifelong struggle, a daughter's desire to connect with the world, and a shared journey that will bring us closer together.
