My name is KeAsia, and I’m a nursing student at the University of North Florida. My mom, my sister, my dog, and I have lost everything in a fire that completely destroyed our home.
On what started as an ordinary day, our apartment was suddenly engulfed in flames. Within minutes, everything we owned was gone — our clothes, furniture, school materials, and memories. My sister woke up to the fire and fought through thick smoke trying to find our dog. My mom ran from door to door searching for a fire extinguisher, but none could be found — not in our unit, not in any of our neighbors’. The property had no fire extinguishers installed, and because of that neglect, we had no way to fight back the flames.
For 30 agonizing minutes, firefighters searched through the smoke and fire until they finally found our dog. She’s alive — shaken, but alive — and that is the only reason we can still smile through this nightmare.
My mom is one of the strongest women I know. She works full-time, is in school to become a nurse, and has been pushing forward even after being in a car accident in July. To see her now standing in ashes where our home once stood — after everything she’s already been through — is heartbreaking. My sister lost everything too: her clothes, school items, and every piece of comfort she had.
As for me, I’m trying to stay focused on my dream of becoming a nurse — to one day help others the way I’ve seen people help us in these dark days. But it’s hard to rebuild from nothing.
We are asking for help to cover:
- Emergency housing and daily essentials (food, clothing, hygiene items)
- School materials, so we can continue our education
- Pet care expenses for our dog’s recovery
- Basic furniture and household necessities as we rebuild from scratch
Our family has always worked hard, cared for others, and believed in staying strong through every storm — but this one has left us with nothing to start over. Any donation, no matter how small, will help us take one step closer to stability, safety, and hope again.
If you can’t donate, please consider sharing our story. Your kindness and support mean more than words can ever express.
From our hearts — thank you for standing with us as we begin to rebuild our lives. ❤️
With love and gratitude,
KeAsia, her mom, and her sister
