Urgent Care for Journee: Our Journey of Healing Continues

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Patrice Shanel.

I am a proud mother of three—and that includes my sweet Yorkie, Journee, whose little belly you see above. We are survivors of domestic violence, and while our journey has been challenging, it has also been one of love and resilience.

Asking for help is not easy for me. Years ago, I created a GoFundMe and received one generous donation, for which I was deeply grateful. But since then, I’ve been hesitant to reach out again. However, when it comes to the life of someone I love, I have to try.

Two years ago, I made the hardest decision of my life: I left my marriage, knowing we’d have nothing but the shirts on our backs. After losing a dear friend who stayed in a dangerous situation, I realized staying wasn’t an option for me or my children. We ended up in a domestic violence shelter, where I had to leave Journee temporarily in a nearby dog shelter. I fought hard to rebuild, and while it hasn’t been easy, I’ve worked tirelessly to care for my family.

Two months ago, I relocated for a fresh start—this time with even less than before. Heartbreakingly, I had to leave Journee behind because my new living situation doesn’t allow pets. I’m still working on forgiving myself for that decision, but thankfully, friends and family have lovingly cared for her in my absence.

Recently, I received devastating news. Journee has been struggling to relieve herself, and an X-ray revealed a golf-ball-sized kidney stone lodged in her system. She urgently needs surgery to remove it.

Some may say, “It’s just a dog.” But if you’ve ever loved a pet, you know they’re family. Journee has been my comfort and companion through everything we’ve endured. I got her three years ago during a time when I felt my world crumbling. She became the outlet for the love I’d been holding in for so long, and now, after all we’ve survived together, I can’t bear to lose her.

I’m humbly asking for your help. If you can donate, no matter the amount, it would mean the world to us. If you’re unable to give, please share this with others who might be able to help. Every little bit counts, and all funds will go directly toward Journee’s medical care.

I’m still trying to understand how this happened. Journee’s wellness check in June showed her panels were clear. I’ve reached out to the vet for more information and will share updates as I learn more.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for connecting with our hearts during this difficult time. Your support, whether through donations, prayers, or shares, means everything.

God bless you all,
Namasté,
- Patrice
