A Most Human Journey: Help David Face Cancer with Courage

For the Love of Spock — and my Dad
A Fundraiser to Support My Father’s Fight with Stage 4 Lung Cancer

Hi, my name is Erin, and I’m raising funds for my incredible father—a man who has been my guide, my rock, and the deepest example of unconditional love I’ve ever known. When I was a little girl, he would hold me on his chest and we would snuggle in his large black recliner and watch reruns of Star Trek with Kirk and Spock. These are some of my favorite and happiest memories of childhood. Recently, my dad shared with me that Spock had inadvertently taught him how to remain calm in the face of uncertainty.

If I’ve ever done anything good with my life, it’s because he showed me how. He taught me values I carry with pride: integrity, honesty, equity, and loyalty. My father has always been a quiet force of strength. He’s the person who lifts others up, never asks for anything in return, and loves fiercely—with kindness, humility, and grace.

Now he needs our help.

On Good Friday, April 18th, 2025, my sweet dad was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic lung cancer (adenocarcinoma). The news was shocking. Just days before, he had passed his pharmaceutical exam with flying colors, preparing to start a new chapter working in the medical field—a role he was excited and proud to take on. Cancer stopped everything.

We are still reeling—but we are also mobilizing, because he deserves every chance at comfort, dignity, and healing.

What Stage 4 Lung Cancer Means
This cancer has spread beyond his lungs to other parts of his body. While it isn’t curable, it is treatable. The goal now is to help him manage symptoms, ease pain, and preserve his quality of life.

He will undergo ongoing treatment—possibly chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or targeted therapy—and must travel regularly from Los Alamos to the Santa Fe Cancer Center for care. This journey is physically demanding and financially draining.

The Emotional and Practical Realities
The fatigue is constant and overwhelming. This is beyond tired—it's a deep exhaustion that makes even the smallest daily tasks difficult.

Our family is adjusting to a new reality. There are hospital days, quiet days, emotional days, and (we hope) some beautiful ones too.

There is grief, but there is also hope. We are doing everything we can to hold both—fighting hard, but staying grounded in the truth of what this journey is.

My mom is his daily caregiver, and they are both on fixed incomes. The financial strain is real—especially with travel, medical costs, and lost wages.

How You Can Help
If you know my dad, you know how deeply he gives—his steady presence, his fierce loyalty, and his quiet acts of love. He has always been there for others. Now it’s our turn to show up for him.

We’re raising funds to help with:

Medical and treatment costs

Travel expenses (to and from Santa Fe for treatment)

Lost income and financial stability

Daily living expenses

Emotional and practical support for our family as we walk this path together.

Every donation—large or small—means more than we can ever say. Your support gives us the chance to focus on being present with him, not just surviving the financial weight.
  • $25 – A tank of gas to get Dad to treatment
  • $50 – A grocery run to help keep things going at home
  • $100 – A day of travel and meals while Dad receives care
  • $250 – A week’s worth of support to ease the financial load
  • Any amount – A gift of hope and strength

If you can’t give, please consider sharing this page. Your words of encouragement, love, and kindness are just as valuable.

From the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of my entire family:
Thank you. We feel your love. And we are so deeply grateful.

Live long and prosper,
Erin
