A Missionary in Need of Medical Help

You may have heard of Dr. Mark and Naomi Turnbull, along with their daughter Kay—and now their growing family, which includes two adopted children. For over 20 years, Naomi and her husband, Dr. Mark, have faithfully served the people of Gaua, a remote island in Vanuatu. As dedicated missionaries, they have devoted their lives to making a difference—offering education, medical care, spiritual guidance, and hands-on support in one of the Pacific’s most isolated regions. Naomi founded and continues to operate a school, which also accommodates deaf students, while Dr Mark operates a Flying Doctor Service and medical clinic, they both pour their hearts and energy into every aspect of their mission.

Faithful to their God, they serve with humility and selflessness. Supporting not only the community of Gaua Island but also reaching far beyond.

Now, unfortunately, they need our help...

After returning to Australia earlier this year due to ongoing health concerns, Naomi received a difficult diagnosis of cancer which required immediate medical attention. She remained in Australia—separated from her family—in order to rest and access both medical and natural treatments essential for her recovery.

Because Naomi and Dr. Mark have been living outside Australia for more than two years, they are no longer eligible for Medicare. This has placed a significant financial burden on them. Naomi recently underwent major surgery to remove a tumour. The operation required an extended hospital stay, followed by an emergency readmission for two nights due to complications. As a result, their out-of-pocket medical expenses have quickly risen to at least $30,000. She also faces a second operation in the near future which will set them back by another very large amount along with the follow-up care. People in Vanuatu do not have the funds to pay for the medical help that Dr Mark gives and only pay in fruit and vegetables. The financial support they receive from abroad barely covers living expenses.

This family, who have given so much without asking for anything in return, now face a financial burden they cannot carry alone. We want to be there to support them! We’re asking our community—friends, family, churches, and those who believe in supporting those who’ve dedicated their lives to others—to give whatever they can to help cover Naomi’s medical expenses.
