We’re a group of friends from Burnt Store Marina, FL and have know Margaret for many years.
You may, or may not, be aware of the many health struggles that Margaret has dealt with throughout her life. After suffering for many years she was put on the lung transplant list and underwent a double lung transplant on Dec. 4th, 2020.
Margaret has been a true warrior! Her outlook has alway been, “I will get through this.” She’s a fighter and has always kept a positive outlook, when many of us would have given up. She is a woman of very strong faith and knows that God walks with her.
Her team of doctors have been wonderful but even they are amazed by her. They told her she would be in the fight of her life, yet they knew she was all in. Her medical team commented that she has been the most compliant transplant patient they’ve ever seen.
One of the potential side effects of lung transplant surgery rejection Immunosuppression medicine is that it can cause skin cancer. Recently Margaret was thrown another curve. They found skin cancer lesions which had gone systemic, then found tumors and lesions elsewhere as well as lesions in her lungs. On top of all of her challenges from going through a transplant she has begun radiation treatments with chemotherapy to follow.
Unfortunately, upon starting radiation her lungs went into complete organ antibody rejection. That was not caused by anything other than "it happens" and it happened at the worst time while fighting cancer. The doctors have now added an extensive infusion to combat the rejection. Margaret will have that infusion once a week, every month, and chemotherapy 3 weeks every month…..Forever.
Margaret is not a complainer. She loves life, her family, friends and her beautiful pup Maggie. Even as she goes through the trials and tribulations of her health issues she is always thinking about and doing things for others. This is our opportunity to be there for her!
We are asking for donations to assist her in what has become an overwhelming financial burden to Margaret. Her out of pocket expenses are extensive. Unlike many of us that visit a doctor near our home, she has hours of travel to specialists on a regular basis and the expenses that go along with that. She has absolutely exhausted all resources and it is impossible to quantify her ongoing expenses.
We thank you in advance for anything that you can contribute to ease Margaret's financial stress. Whether you are able to help at this time, or not, please keep Margaret in your prayers and pass this along to others that might be interested.
