Dearest friends and family,
A few weeks ago, Hashem (God) granted me a crazy miracle and a second chance at life, when I was in what should have been a catastrophic car accident.
I was driving on a winding mountain road when a car suddenly came into my lane around a sharp curve. I swerved to avoid a collision — and my Land Cruiser spun out and then rolled three times, landing on its side up against the mountain.
Every time I look at the pictures and videos of what happened, I still can't believe that I'm alive — let alone that I walked away without a single scratch. No bruise, no bump, not even an ache the next day.
But the miracle didn’t stop there.
When I looked around the wreckage of the car, I saw the real insanity: all of my tools — saw blades, roofing nails, hammers, drills, wrenches, screws — had exploded loose. Even glass bottles I’d been collecting for recycling became flying projectiles. Inside that car, it was chaos.
And yet, nothing touched me — not a single thing even grazed my skin.
It was like a scene from The Matrix, in which Neo dodged the bullets — except in my case, I didn’t move. Hashem (God) moved everything around me. He orchestrated the chaos with such precision that not even a shard of glass landed in my hair. I was wrapped in an extraordinary bubble of divine protection.
But while I walked away… my car didn’t.
She was a 2002 Land Cruiser — a beast that hauled all my equipment — and in the end, she became a sacred metal cage that saved my life.
The Land Cruiser that saved my life — and that I rely on for work — was completely totaled. I only had third-party insurance, which means there’s no compensation, no coverage, no vehicle — and no work.
(And yes, I know — how could I not have had comprehensive coverage on that vehicle? Believe me, you don’t need to ask. I’ve asked myself that question enough times already.)
For those of you who know us, you already know that my husband Yaakov (Jamey) became seriously ill several years ago. He went from being a strong, healthy man to fully disabled and unable to work.
I am now both the sole breadwinner and his full-time caregiver.
My work depends on having a tough, reliable vehicle — not just for jobs, but for hauling tools, picking up supplies, and managing life in the rugged terrain I often drive through. I need to raise $15,714 USD (about 51,000 NIS) to cover the fundraising fees and actually walk away with $15,000, enough to replace the Land Cruiser and keep our lives running.
I’ve had to turn to my friends and family in the past to raise the money for Yaakov’s mobility scooter, and you were all so kind and generous with us. And so it is with deep humility and gratitude for all of you that I do it now again.
If you’ve ever witnessed or experienced something that reminded you how fragile and miraculous life can be — and if you understand what it means to be the sole breadwinner — please consider helping.
Every donation — no matter how small — gets me closer to a real, working vehicle.
And if you can't give right now, sharing this helps more than you know.
With overflowing gratitude for the miracle I was given — and for the kindness I’m asking now —
Rachel Tate Welfeld
