This past Saturday, our sweet 10-year-old Chihuahua, Nala, was hit by a car. At only 3 pounds, she’s tiny and incredibly fragile. At that moment, we feared the worst. It was one of the most terrifying, heartbreaking days of our lives.
Nala was rushed to the emergency vet, where she received x-rays, ultrasounds, oxygen therapy, and medications to reduce swelling in her brain. To our absolute amazement, despite being hit by a car, Nala had no broken bones and no internal bleeding, only a severe concussion. For a 3-pound dog, this is nothing short of an absolute miracle, and we are still in awe that she’s alive and in our arms today. She spent two nights in the hospital under close watch and intensive care. By the grace of God, and with the help of an incredible medical team, she pulled through. Nala is now back home and stable, but she’s not out of the woods. She’s on multiple pain medications and a preventative seizure medication, and she still has a long road of recovery ahead.
We’ve had Nala for 8 beautiful years. I adopted her when my daughter Olivia was just 2 years old, and since then, they have been absolutely inseparable. Nala is more than just a pet, she is family. She is comfort and companionship. She is the tiny heartbeat at our feet, always close, always watching over us. She is our little shadow, our source of unconditional love and warmth.
To say we’d be lost without her is an understatement. Our home, our routines, our hearts all revolve around this tiny dog with the biggest spirit. She brings laughter and joy to everyone she meets. And now, we’re doing everything we can to give her a chance to keep doing just that for many more years to come.
Her emergency vet bills have already reached $5,500, and we anticipate more expenses for medications and follow-up care. As a single mom, this has created a heavy financial burden that I simply can’t carry alone, but I would do anything to keep her safe and with us.
If you’re able to donate, share, or simply send a prayer, we would be so incredibly grateful. Every little bit helps, and every kind thought means more than we can say. Thank you for supporting us and for believing in Nala’s strength.
With all our hearts,
Kristen & Olivia
