Dear friends and family...as many of you now know, my brother Ken Altman and sister in law Nikki rushed their 17 year old daughter Maria to the ER on Saturday, February 20th. They soon learned just how serious her condition was.
Their sweet daughter Maria is in the fight of her young life. She suffered a brain hemorrhage due to a congenital defect called an AVM. After emergency brain surgery to save her life, now they wait ...Kenny and Nikki have not left her side, and I fear this road will be a long one for all of them; the brain is not a speedy healer.
Being in the midst of a pandemic, it’s difficult to be by their side to assist, and I’ve been struggling with how to best help them. The one thought that keeps coming to mind is that they are both among the most generous people I’ve ever met; the first ones to be there to help both friends and strangers alike and the last ones to ask for help when they need it. I qualify this crisis as a need for help, even as they continue to believe they can do it on their own, or that “others” need it more than they do...
I believe the greatest help is your continued prayers; please keep praying for Maria’s full and speedy recovery; she’s a fighter and has what it takes to fight through! And pray for strength and peace for Ken and Nikki; strength to endure each and every step ahead of them and that peace will fill their moments of complete despair.
