Our hearts are heavy for our 12-month-old granddaughter Mabel. Many of you have been following Mabel’s story and we so appreciate your prayers and words of encouragement. At 6 months of age Mabel underwent emergency open heart surgery to repair a leaking Mitral Valve in her heart. After the surgery her condition looked promising, but subsequent appointments to her cardiologist have revealed the valve is leaking at an increasing rate and a second surgery is immanent. My daughter, Erin, and her husband, Jared, were devastated by the news. They're having a hard time processing everything and figuring out what the future holds for Mabel. The surgeon feels there isn't sufficient tissue to repair her valve, so they may have to insert a synthetic replacement valve. If a synthetic valve is used Mabel will require several valve replacement surgeries over her lifetime as her heart develops and she will require blood thinners indefinitely. All of this is a lot for Jared and Erin to take in. Jared and Erin live in Idaho, and healthcare procedures in the United States are very costly. Mabel has already reached her yearly limit on insurance coverage and some of the medical expenses from Mabel’s first surgery are still outstanding. Jared and Erin also have bills from Mabel’s cardiologist, as well as expensive prescription bills, and it has all become financially overwhelming. We're reaching out to our friends and family for support, as Mabel's mounting medical expenses are a significant challenge for Jared and Erin. We're asking if you would consider contributing to help ease this financial burden.
